About Marie-Christine Leclerc:
- Where I live: Wherever my Volkswagen takes me! No, really, I spend my winters in La Ventana, Baja, Mexico. In the summer time I stay at Nitinat Lake on Vancouver Island, Canada.
- WhereI'm from: A little town south of Quebec City, Canada, called St-Marc-des-Carrieres.
Sport Interests: Kiteboarding mostly, but I also love surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, yoga.
How I got started kiteboarding: First I watched my boyfriend Mark and a couple friends learn on their own. It looked a little crazy as they had no instructions and not even a book to tell them what to do. There were not many kiteboarders in Canada at the time. Then they gave me a trainer kite to practice and I got hooked. I started traveling to warm and windy places and there was no going back.
Athletic achievements: I have won a few competitions in the past few years.
- 1st in the ‘La Ventana Classic’ from Cerralvo island to La Ventana in Baja, Mexico 2006 and 2007
- 1st in Womens Freestyle at Nitinat Windfest, Canada 2006 and 2007
But I think the best part is the whole lifestyle that comes with kiting. All the travels, riding all different places, flat water, waves, riding different boards and pushing my own limits is what I love the most.
Athletic goals: To keep pushing myself, keep learning as much as I can. Stay healthy and be in good shape.
Philosophy: Make the most out of today, enjoy every moment of my life.
Favorite spot to do my sport: I love riding new places and different beaches but I keep going back to Nitinat Lake and La Ventana.
Favorite Girls4Sport wear: I love it all but the one I wear the most is my drawstring skirt. It is so comfortable and looks good with everything. I also take the travel bag everywhere I go.
What I do when I'm not in the water: All sorts of other things, hang out with my friends, take care of my dogs and I like to do crafts….the list never ends.
My job: I am the owner and main instructor of Elevation Kiteboarding School. The Elevation kite School operates at Nitinat lake from June to September and then at Baja Joes in La Ventana from November to April. I also run the office for Baja Joe’s Resort during the winter. So I am kiteboarding instructing, running the school and kiteboarding year around.
Education: I went to college for a year after high school. But the school of life is so far my favorite. Learning languages, culture and different trades.
Interesting/unusual facts about me: Right now, Ii am working on a kiteboarding instructional video along with Mike Foy at Leading Edge Production. It should be ready in only a few months. View the trailer at http://www.leadingedgeproductions.ca/
