Siobhan Saunders

  • Where I live: Santa Cruz, CA
  • Where I'm from: Grew up on the San Francisco Peninsula. Have live my whole life in California

Sport Interests: Surfing, mountain biking, snowboarding, trail running, open water swimming. I hope to learn to kite surf very soon.

How I got started in surfing:
For my first job out of college, my employer sent me on a 1 year assignment Santa Barbara, CA. (Somebody had to make the sacrafice : ) ) Right away I told my self, I better learn to surf now, because someday I may not be so lucky as to live by the ocean. But just the opposite came true, because I learned to surf, I have always lived by the ocean. I have even passed up promotions because they would have required me to move away from the coast.

Athletic achievements:
Did my first Ironman triathlon in 2006. Completed the Leadville 100 mountain bike race, Have climbed Mt. Blanc (France), Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) and Pico Orazabi (Mexico). swam the length of Donner Lake, won the 12 Hours of Humbolt Mountain Bike race; won the Muir Woods Marathon, won the Biz Johnson 1/2 Marathon Athletic.

Goals: Keep active and adventurous until I drop dead.

Inspiration:
The cool women in Santa Cruz who come in all shapes, sizes and ages, who get out and "just do it" everyday with a smile.

Life/Sport Philosophy:
Try it all at least once.

Favorite spot to do my sport:
An uncrowded warm water tropical point break, preferably a left.

Favorite Girls4Sport wear:
Love the long sleeve rash guards. The colors and fabrics are so original and the long sleeves are actually LONG. Yeah!

What I do when I'm not in the water:
I love to read and actually belong to two book clubs. I am an NPR junkie. I guess in some ways, I am just a Mt. Bike and a Snowboard away from being a nerd. I also love to play with my Jack Russell Terrier, Turbo.

My job (or what I'm studying in school):
Construction Engineer

Education:
BS Civil Engineering, Santa Clara University; Masters, International School of World Travel.

Interesting/unusual facts about me:
I would love to travel back in time to see some of the world's great geological formations develop like the Grand Canyon.
